How do we achieve true connection in today’s modern world and how do Jacqueline Burns' teachings in the art of Tantra come in useful for her Client's who are all seeking healthy, long-term relationships?

Connection is an amazing thing. The way life is structured these days around work, phones, computers and the emphasis being put on the material, people are moving further and further away from real connection every day. Especially in the UK, where politeness and manners can be used as a wedge to closeness- how do we truly connect anymore?

The Echelon Scene Founder, Jacqueline Burns, helps her Clients to connect with one another on a daily basis. Bringing two people together for traditional old-fashioned connection, in order to find a long-term relationship, is what she does best. Her members sit opposite one another and get to know each other. A basic, but very efficient way of establishing a connection. This is becoming a top commodity. There is no better feeling than knowing that someone sees you, hears you and understands you- and that they like what they see. But with society subliminally encouraging us to focus on ourselves and making it all rather easy to spend time alone- we can forget how to fully connect with one another.

Jacqueline Burns recently did a workshop on Tantra and learnt more about how to connect. The workshop shone on a light on how unusual and uncomfortable it can be to look at someone you’ve just met in the eye and feel them look back. Tantra teaches you to connect with others, whilst also remaining connected to yourself. They go through practices whereby firstly, you shake it out, then, you breathe. Similar to the way yoga comes before meditation. You release pent up energy and then regulate the breath. You then invite someone into your space, whilst making eye contact and connect your breath together. Similarly, open up the lines of communication with someone, how do you feel and how are they making you feel. Be open.

This may sound very out there and many associate Tantra with the physical, but it can be used in every day. Try it with a friend! The feeling is powerful and at the same time, highlights how we are preconditioned these days to a) not be in someone’s space, b) not to stare at people we don’t know and c) not to touch people (this varies in different countries) and therefore, not connect. It is extremely key in bonding with a potential long-term partner, to slow down. Embrace your senses of smell, taste and touch. Life is fast paced and often we forget to slow down and smell the roses. Take a connection step by step from the start, it makes it stronger and means you will connect on a deeper level.

Working with men, many can have very pre-conditioned notions of how physical connection looks and that is fine, Jacqueline would never ask someone to change their inherent beliefs. However, moving beyond the self-orientated, ego driven way (or sped up way) many 'connect' these days, will bring about a more satisfying relationship, for you both. Hopefully, with COVID forcing us all to slow down anyway, we will all become more considered and appreciate and prioritise real connection and bonding. Remembering in ourselves what truly makes us happy, instead of allowing society to dictate that for us.
