In the world of professional gay matchmaking, no two days are the same. But for me, each one starts with a few constants. At the age of 35, I’ve learned that my most creative hours are between 9 am and 2 pm, so I always prioritise any creative work to be within that window. Writing, strategising, and crafting thoughtful matches happen early. But above all, my clients come first. The men I work with — whether they’re based in New York, Los Angeles, or London—are exceptional individuals looking for love, and my day always begins by responding to any overnight messages, setting up calls, and catching up on emails.

By mid-morning, it’s all about connection. I spend the majority of my day on calls, Zoom meetings, or in person, face-to-face conversations. It’s important for me to speak directly with everyone whether they are a Client or in the network. I personally matchmake every Client, ensuring they are either dating someone, or are on the cusp of meeting their ideal partner. My role as a gay matchmaker requires not just finding matches but cultivating relationships with the men I work with. A lot of my calls now start from 2pm as most of our Clients are in NYC or LA.

I am often asked, “What kind of men do you work with and how do you find them?” I love what I do because of the men that I work with. They are all exceptional, in various ways. Exceptional careers, emotionally intelligent, forward thinking, well-travelled.. the list goes on. I also just love speaking with my Clients as they are all kind, genuine and inspire me. It is important as a matchmaker to take on Clients that you can truly vouch for and most importantly, meet their expectations. The main factor that I look for initially in a Client, is someone who is genuinely relationship ready.

A lot of my getting to know a Client happens at the beginning, we will do a long profiling Zoom or face-to-face meeting. After that we discuss matches over the phone. I will do anything it takes though to truly get to know a Client. Whether that is speaking with a best friend of theirs, watching videos they are in, or multiple face-to-face meetings. However, I am a fast observer, perceptive and have sharp insight- so all of this is not often fully needed, but it can be helpful and fun!

Most of the men I work with come across the business through the website. I have been matchmaking for 13 years, so naturally, we come up top on Google. They will also come via referral, from existing Clients (once we have a success, Clients will refer all their friends which gives us some great new men), and from people who just know me and the business and what type of men we work with.

When it comes to matchmaking, my process goes beyond just the surface-level, aka physical attraction, or matching based on 'type.' I take a more balanced view looking at matches having complimenting characteristics, values, energy, lifestyle and similar hopes and dreams for the future. Of course, physical attraction is a factor, but it's not the driving force. What really guides me is a gut feeling, honed over years of experience. It’s an instinct that tells me when two people will click, something that no algorithm or online dating platform can replicate. It’s this human touch that makes my work so impactful.

In recent years, the agency has expanded globally, with many of our clients based in the U.S. While the pandemic shifted much of my work online, Zoom has become an effective tool for staying connected with clients. However, I still make regular trips to New York and Los Angeles to meet with clients face-to-face. Although we no longer have an office in NYC, I always ensure that personal meetings are a priority, as building strong relationships is at the heart of what I do.

I find people fascinating, so this job continues to quench my thirst in that regard. I am for sure an introvert though, so quite happy at the end of a busy day of calls to not speak anymore. I have an allergy to socialising in the week as I love my down time and like to do things well. The weekdays for me are about work, fitness and reconnecting. I meditate, sleep, walk my dog, read and watch Netflix and as boring as that sounds, that’s what makes me happy!
